I was born in the middle of the country’s rustbelt, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and I love my Midwest roots. Not exactly a hotbed for future yoga instructors. But let me first be clear: I love my Midwest roots. I love the food and the warm people and the culture. And yes, I love my Steelers too. But even as firm as the roots were where I grew up, I always had the desire to travel. And so as soon as I could, I did. I went away to college. And afterwards, I moved to California. While these might seem like small steps, to a little girl from Pittsburgh for my family I may as well had gone to the moon. I mention this because I know that it is hard to leave home. But the truth is, you never do. Between then and now I have been all over the world, including the countries Peru, Austria, Spain, Italy and Thailand among others. And every place was magical in its own way. Travelling is and always will be such a blessing in my life. But if there is one single thing that I have taken away from all my travel it is not how different people and cultures are. It is how we are the same. Wherever I went, when I spoke with other women we seemed to share the same ambitions and dreams. We wanted to love and be loved. We wanted to express ourselves with our own divine uniqueness. We wanted to be. I know that all dreams are not the same ambition. Madam Curie set out to discover radium. And a lot of women just dream of being a good partner or wonderful mother. But it is not the size of the dream that matters. It is the intention of the dream. And if your dream comes from a clear heart and an open spirit then it’s as big as the biggest dream ever – because it is yours and yours alone.
I know that it sounds hokey, but Yoga helped me find my dream. I’ve always been a spiritual person and was raised in a devout family, as many from the Midwest are. But I’ve also always been drawn to dance and movement. And I discovered that when I connected with my body through music, it opened the castle of my spirit in a way that nothing else had. For me, it was always a prayer. And Yoga galvanized this for me. It trained my body and funneled my energy. And most importantly, it helped me gain a clear heart and an open spirit. And it is with this heart and spirit that has given birth to my dream: the creation of YogaTease, which is a fusion of these two disciplines.
I know the discipline of Yoga means so much to so many. And there was a brief period in the beginning of my creative process where I thought, “Maybe I shouldn’t…This is sacred ground.” But it was the very essence of Yoga that pushed me to go forward. That essence is: find your purpose in this beautiful life.
My purpose in this life is to help women find their inner truth and connect to their feminine essence.
There are literally hundreds of types of Yoga available to women. There’s hot Yoga and cold Yoga, (called “snowga” very clever). There’s Yoga to hip-hop music and Yoga to classical music. There’s nude Yoga and there’s cannabis Yoga. Serious. There’s even something now called “doga.” It’s Yoga with your dog. (Wouldn’t mind taking Molly to one.) So I know YogaTease might be just another brand on the shelf. But I can guarantee you one thing: If you take a class of YogaTease I promise you will be moved. I promise you will get as close to your inner feminine energy as you ever have. And I promise you that you will feel a kinship in the studio. You are not alone. We are not alone.
I hope that you join me.
